Another Great Stay

Can’t say enough good things about the Phannu House. We had a very busy 4 day conference in Mae Sot and it was nice to come back to a comfortable room each night after a long day of work. It’s a great feeling that I know I can go to a room each day that really allows me to relax, I don’t need to ask for anything or even think about that I’m staying in a hotel.

I’ve stayed at a few expensive hotels in Bangkok recently and had to hassle with weak Internet and passwords expiring (which they always charge extra for -Phannu doesn’t!), not enough space to work and other minor but annoying inconveniences. It really make me appreciate how nice it is to stay at a gem like Phannu.

Wonderful Phannu House!

I have stayed at the Phannu House numerous times while doing non-profit work with my girlfriend. Their rooms are elegantly decorated with nice balconies that have a great view of the mountains and sunsets. There is always complimentary water in your room and free hot coffee/tea downstairs. The beds are really comfortable and the bathrooms are always clean. The Phannu House also offers an outdoor sitting area with big tables around a garden and fish ponds. Management will take care of your every need and the hotel even offers a mini-mart attached to the hotel on the main street. They were so nice they let us run our youth training program outside on their tables, since we couldn’t find anywhere else with internet. One thing is for certain, the Phannu House will take the extra step to make you feel at home!

Always a great experience!

I have stayed at the Phannu House a total of five times and every single time is a great experience. They are very accommodating, friendly and helpful. The location is central to everywhere and the hotel can set you up with a Tuk-tuk and bicycles can be rented for a cheap price. It is very clean and the rooms are very cozy. They have a balcony, air condition, television, fast internet, clean bathrooms with hot water and comfortable beds.
It is also very safe. We had forgotten our computer charger and the owner’s daughter rushed to the bus station to bring it to us before the bus left for Bangkok at 9:30PM. Now that is dedicated service! Stay here and I promise you will not regret it!

Visa Run

Getting your passports re-stamped with a 15 days visa exempt in Mae Sot is truly unique and exciting. Cross the towering brand new friendship bridge into Burma! You can take your bike/motorbike (available at the Phannu House) to the left and go for about 10-15 minutes on a bike and a few minutes on a motorbike on the same road as the Phannu House. You can also ask for a tuk-tuk at the front desk for a set price. Once you get to the gatehouse you can lock up your bike and go to the Thai Immigration window. Get your visa stamped out of Thai, then walk across the bridge and a tour guide will show you the rest of the way, you have to leave your passport in the Burmese Immigration Office and they will leave a slip of paper that you will not want to lose! Enjoy great food and cold beer along the river on the Burmese side at the River Garden you can’t miss it’s colorful facade! There is also a wonderful temple within walking distance on the right, a tour guide can very helpful. After a couple of hours of exploring and witnessing amazing culture that few rarely have seen, it is best to go back to the Burmese Immigration Office, grab your passport and head back to the Phannu House.

Even if your not doing a visa run, the friendship bridge is definitely a Mae Sot Tourist attraction with a huge market on the right side of the bridge if your facing Burma.

Please enjoy this review by one of our happy guests!

The Phannu House hotel is my home away from home when working in Mae Sot. The family who own and run hotel are extremely kind and welcoming. They try to accommodate every request, and don’t ask for anything in return.

Everything I need is in walking distance, toiletries, laundry services and great food. (If you like Indian food, you MUST check out Janra Indian restaurant, only a 7 minute walk from the hotel -THE best India food I have found in Thailand!) The hotel also rents bicycles at very reasonable rates.

As a tech worker, I really appreciate the quality of the high speed wireless internet they have at the hotel. I travel a lot and Internet access and speed is can be a problem, not only in Thailand but even in the US where I am from. Often I have to do follow up work in my hotel room, it’s great that I can come home to a comfortable room and get my work done quickly. And unlike many other hotels, there’s no surcharge for Internet access.

The Phannu House gets 5 stars in my book!
